4X4 EVO to Race onto PlayStation2 Computer Entertainment System
Terminal Reality and Gathering of Developers Announce Development of Off-Road Simulation Racer for PlayStation2
Dallas, TX, December 15, 2000 - It's EVOlution baby! Game developer Terminal Reality and developer-driven computer and video game publisher Gathering of Developers today announced that 4x4 EVO, the fast-paced, arcade-style, 4x4 off-road simulation is in development for PlayStation2. 4x4 EVO, currently available for the PC, Mac and Dreamcast, puts virtual drivers behind the wheel of their favorite real world SUV and/or light truck and allows them to take a rough ride through a variety of detailed environments. 4x4 EVO will be published by Gathering of Developers and distributed by Take Two Interactive and will arrive in stores nationwide in spring 2001.
"Terminal Reality is well-known throughout the gaming industry as one of the top developers of simulation games," said Mike Wilson, CEO of Gathering of Developers. "4x4 EVO has been well received by the PC, Mac and Dreamcast press and we feel confident that with its real-world physics, rugged racing style, licensed vehicles, new enhancements and blazing speed, PlayStation2 fans and press will embrace this version as well." 4x4 EVO takes gamers for the off-road ride of their lives through a total of 15 courses, each with its own distinctive design, music score and difficulty level. In addition to contending with the other vehicles, players will be challenged by a variety of variables such as gates, trees, and tractors in junkyards or on-coming traffic in construction zones. Virtual drivers can then stop and rewind the action through a playback feature and can view the whole race again from multiple camera angles, and even different racers' perspectives. In the PlayStation2 version, players will choose between three different modes: Career, Quick Race and Time Attack. Career mode allows the gamer to choose base trucks from eight licensed real-world manufacturers and compete in a series of off-road races to win cash. This money can be used to purchase enhancement parts such as a race clutch, heavy-duty off-road suspension, performance exhaust, and special off-road racing tires. Quick Race mode enables two people to pick from a wide range of cars and courses and race head-to-head while Time Attack mode lets players race against the clock while out-maneuvering a ghost vehicle.
4x4 EVO has received fantastic praise from the gaming and consumer press. GamePro Magazine described the game as "jaw-droppingly gorgeous" while Game Informer Magazine said that 4x4 EVO is "destined to rule your free time." In addition, Mac Addict Magazine raved that the game is "built on one of the most stunning graphics engines we've ever seen to date." AutoWeek wrote that with 4x4 EVO "your wildest truck-racing fantasies can come true" and The London Times called the game a "different spin on conventional racing games."
"With the PlayStation2 version of 4x4 EVO, we are giving more gamers a chance to drive their favorite 4x4's into the rough and tumble world of off-road racing with this ultra-realistic console game," said John O?Keefe, 4x4 EVO producer at Terminal Reality.
