No ‘Nul Points’ for Earache Extreme Metal Racing at Golden Gods Fourth Annual Awards Show

Data Design and Earache Records’ Earache Extreme Metal Racing game made a brilliant premiere at the fourth annual Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards, which took place on June 12 at London’s Koko venue.

Instead of the normal troop of dancing girls during the interval, Earache Extreme Metal Racing took center stage with two willing victims from the audience, playing head to head. The winner took part in a final face off against Darren Smith from Viking Skull.

The winner was Jarred from London, who took home a special winner’s cup, saying ‘Cool game and great to kick Darren Smith butt’ but according to Darren from Viking Skull ‘He was lucky! I had spent the day playing this game to make sure I was the winner, only I hit the bloody lightning zombie which blew me away’

Its was also a lucky night for apprentice games designer Sky Nash; ‘Who would have thought something I came up with a year ago as a concept whilst on work experience, is about to be released! Better still, I get to hang out with a musician whose music I love, and to play Earache Extreme Metal Racing against Lordi, the Finnish Eurovision winner was fantastic’.

"Being the only record label in the world with its very own Playstation game is really exciting. All the industry people at the Golden Gods wanted to talk to us and this shows that it has raised Earache's profile again and enhanced our reputation for being at the cutting edge of innovation”, commented; Ashley Mortimer, Marketing Manager, Earache Records ‘And I had to laugh watching the game been played by Lordi…I still don’t know how they operated the controls with those monster troll fingers’.

“Setting up a pre-release game, for a live demo is worrying, enough, but when it is in front of 3000 hard core rock fans, and filmed by MTV it adds even more pressure. What we needed was reassurance, so while preparing in the wings, just 10 minutes before our act went live, the stage manager came over to tell us ‘that these were real hard core fans who lived and loved their music, they were critical and hard to please and in previous years when shown inappropriate games they had boo’d all the way through a computer game challenge, but best of luck you are on ..now! We had gone from nervous to extreme pressure! we would in the next 15 minutes either pass public quality approval or die a humiliating death. We had specifically designed a game for the Rock and metal fans, with zombie killing, fire spitting, vehicles from Hell, and they loved it, we had cheers from the crowd as the car to car combat fought on stage. They recognized and approved of our hard work, Earache Extreme Metal Racing - Rocks!. Many thought the game had been specifically designed for the awards show, which is just about the best compliment we could get. Designed by a rock fan, featuring 10 of the best bands, and approved by the fans at the industry awards. We will be back next year.” - Stewart Green, MD Data Design Interactive

Earache Extreme Metal Racing uniquely was conceived and created when she was 15 years old, now 16 Gothic metaller Sky Nash and all started as a possible way to not only keep her amused but potentially to dissuade her from following her overworked father into a gaming career.

Earache Extreme Metal Racing is a joint partnership between Earache Records with Metro 3D, a leading Value Price video games publisher, in conjunction with the games developer Data Design Interactive. PC version is due for shipping on July 7, 2006, with the PlayStation2 version following on July 28, 2006 and the PSP version in Q4 2006.

Earache Extreme Metal Racing will feature ten evil Earache racing teams burning a lot more than rubber through hell and other wastelands.
