MTV MUSIC GENERATOR 2 TO BE FIRST TO UTILIZE THE USB PORT AS A SAMPLER ON THE PLAYSTATION®2 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

New York, NY – May 14, 2001 – Taking gaming ingenuity one step further, Codemasters announced today that it is distributing a dedicated USB sampling hardware unit for use with MTV Music Generator 2, its debut title for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. The USB Sampler, which will carry an approximate SRP of $15.00, will be available via a mail order offer included in the game box or online at www.codemasters.com when the game ships on June 5, 2001.

The peripheral is comprised of a USB connector that runs to an “input box” into which users can plug either a microphone for vocal samples or a direct lead from the output of virtually any audio source. Prospective composers, producers and remixers will then be able to import their own unique samples, edit those samples and then save them for use in any future recording.

Providing CD-quality sampling at 44.1KHz, MTV Music Generator 2 offers 23 seconds of sampling per session. After editing and saving a sample, players can begin a new 23-second sampling session, repeating the process over and over until the available memory is full.

MTV Music Generator 2 is the follow up to the original MTV Music Generator, which took America by storm in 1999, winning an Innovation Award from Sony Computer Entertainment. The first and only music-generating product for the console market enables players to create original soundtracks utilizing countless pre-recorded riffs from eight different musical genres, featuring rock, pop, garage, indie, house and R&B. MTV Music Generator 2 and the USB Sampler will both be available for PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system on May 22, 2001.
