The Guy Game Review
!!! WARNING --- The Guy Game is oozing with mature content; including topless girls, dirty jokes, and bad language. If any of these things offend you, do not buy this game. --- WARNING !!!
The Guy Game, at its very core, is a trivia game. Questions are asked, points are awarded to the players that answered correctly, and the player with the most points at the end wins. The twist is the drinking game that is woven into the gameplay as well as the topless girls.
The Guy Game was a little quiz show held during Spring Break at South Padre Island. Girls were asked questions, and for every wrong answer they had to flash the audience. When playing the game you are asked the same questions and are shown the clips of the girls. If they get the question wrong they flash their breasts, but you don’t get to see them right away – that’s where the Flash-O-Meter comes in.
The Flash-O-Meter controls the level of “content” you are allowed to see. It starts in the Soft & Squishy stage. Each bonus question you answer correctly fills the Flash-O-Meter, allowing you to see more. During Soft & Squishy the girls’ chests are blocked by the Guy Game logo. Once you break into Sorta Chubby only some of the breast is blurred out. Your goal is to hit the Super Stiff stage where nothing is censored out. Once you hit Super Stiff the episode is considered beat and the Flash-O-Meter goes away.
If you don’t reach Super Stiff in a particular episode, you have to come back later and try again. The game won’t allow you to immediately retry either, so you have to cycle through the set before coming back. Also, the questions don’t change so you’re stuck answering the same ones again. This can be considered a good thing if you want to breeze through the episode just to beat it, but if you don’t like it there is an extra trivia option where new questions are asked.
The Guy Game sort of has a built-in drinking game as well. The person with the most points at any given time is referred to as the President, while the lowest point holder is the A—hole. The President has control over many things, including rules to follow, control over videos, choice of Ballz game, and so fourth.
Once you dive into an episode you start in the first round, a.k.a. the Foreplay Round. You’re given a question, and the longer you take to answer the question the amount of points you can bet decreases. As the points drain, wrong answers are taken away until only two remain. Players can change their answer at any time before the points reach zero, but if they change their answer their new wager is whatever the counter is at. So you’re really trying to pick an answer as soon as you can so you can win more points. After that you watch as one of the three girls of the episode is asked the same question. The bonus question is whether she answers the question right or wrong. Same situation here as before, and the more points you wager on the bonus question the further the Flash-O-Meter goes if correct.
During the quiz section there are many chances for extra points. Players with a keen eye will notice various objects pop up as you pick out your answer. Some times it just requires a press of a random direction on the d-pad, while other times you must mimic the sequence of direction buttons shown.
Once through with round one, the quiz action takes a little break and you have the option to play one of three Ballz games. These games are incredibly simple, yet can get very intense with multiple players. There’s BallzIn, where players try to knock balls into other goals while keeping balls out of their own. BallzOut places all players on a square arena with no barriers and the goal is to knock as many little balls out as you can. Finally there’s BallzShotz, where players ramp their ball into moving targets much like skeeball.
After a rousing game of Ballz you’re ushered back into the trivia questions. The third round, or The Titwitz Round, has you once again answering quiz questions, but this time the girls are always wrong. For Bonus points you must guess what their wrong answer is.
If you were able to reach Super Stiff by the end of round three there is an extra fourth round waiting for you. This round is called The Hottie Challenge, and it pits the three girls from that episode against each other in a random test of endurance. If the girls participate topless they get a head start, and many of them take that opportunity. Each player chooses the girl they think will win and then bets a certain amount of their points on her. The tables can take a major turn here, because players can either win or lose large amounts of points.
There is also quite a bit of added content to unlock, including pictures and videos from behind the scenes. Most of this stuff consists of drunken Spring Break antics and really isn’t worth watching, but some of it is a little funny.
The entire game is saturated with dirty jokes and potty humor. A lot of it is roll-your-eyes stupid, but some of it will most likely cause a chuckle or two.
The Guy Game is the perfect trivia game for a fraternity or apartment full of guys and beer, but if you’re looking for a fun game to play by yourself or with the girlfriend do not even glance at this one. The Guy Game is full of mature language and topless girls, and is no fun to play solo. Playing The Guy Game by yourself is like playing Monopoly by yourself; the point of the game is to compete for the most points, so it’s boring to play alone. If you have two or three other friends that are into nudity, drinking, and high school humor this is a great choice
Gameplay: 7.4
The trivia
questions are taken from many different subjects, and the difficulty increases
as you progress through the episode. Each episode has its own set of questions,
so with 20 episodes you have quite a bit of gameplay. The Ballz games are also
surprisingly fun.
Graphics: 8
It’s kind of hard
to rate a game that is made up mostly of video, but the video quality is really
good. The menus are also crisp, colorful, and easy to read.
Sound: 4
The soundtrack is
made up of a handful of songs that are about 20 seconds long and looped over and
over. Most of the dialogue in the game is created by drunken Spring Breakers,
and the rest is made up of the two unfunny commentators. It’s not all bad since
some of the jokes are bound to make you laugh a little, but the majority of them
are really stupid.
Difficulty: Easy
Since this game
was geared toward college students for the most part, you’ll find that the
questions aren’t too tough. If you happen to fail an episode, it’s easy to
return to that episode and remember the correct answers from the last play
through.
Concept: 5
A trivia game
based on a drinking game isn’t a bad idea, and while you’re at it why not throw
in naked girls, right? Trivia games are nothing new, and I can understand trying
to spice up the genre a bit (it’s not the most exciting to begin with), but it
all feels so tasteless. I have to give Topheavy Studios and Gathering some
credit for creating a trivia game that truly rewards the player, though.
Multiplayer: 7
If you don’t have
someone to play this with don’t even bother. The structure of The Guy Game
resembles that of a board game in a way, and playing a board game alone is
really boring. Well, playing The Guy Game by yourself is really boring too.
Overall: 5.8
A random guy from
a behind the scenes video says right to the camera, “This game’s going to be
better than Grand Theft Auto.” Sorry, dude, you were wrong. The Guy Game isn’t
absolutely terrible; it just has an extremely limited audience. The trivia part
of the game is pretty fun, the Ballz games are simple but competitive, and the
drinking games are well integrated. The boobs are an added bonus, and nice to
see, but if all you want is the boobs don’t buy this game - if you’re old enough
to buy this game, you’re old enough to buy pornography. If you’re looking for a
fun party game to play with a bunch of horny guys this is a good choice.
