Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc. Review
Play as Sulley to rescue the future of monsterkind, uncover a sinister plot and get Boo back to bed where she belongs. You can make Sulley scare, jump, smash with his tail, whip, attack, talk, push, hide and sneak throughout 15 levels.
My favorite part of the game is viewing all the great movie clips. You can win them by winning bonus levels as you progress through the game, but they will also play at the beginning of each level.
What I was not impressed with was the characters voices did not exactly sound like the ones from the movie. However children playing this game probably won't even notice.
My eight year old had no problems controlling and working his way through the levels yet was challenged enough to hold his interest. The monster health meter shows Sulley's health level. When Sulley gets hurt, one point disappears from this meter, If he loses all five healthpoints he must retry the challenge. To replenish the health meter you must find treats or health icons.
A good feature for the beginning gamer is the button prompts, they help you know what button to press at certain times. When you draw close to something that requires a certain button pressed, the prompt will show which button you need to use.
The goal is to take Sulley throughout monstropolis to save it and Boo. Most all the other monsters will help Sulley except for Randall who will sabotage his efforts.
Most kids that play this game will probably be familiar with the movie and the lovable characters including...
-
James P. Sullivan (Sulley) the top scarer at Monsters, Incorporated. He is a big lovable blue furry monster.
-
Mike Wazowski is Sulleys best friend and coach. The one-eyed monster that will give you gameplay advice.
-
Randall, a purple lizard type monster whom wants to be top scarer and will try to mess things up for Sulley.
-
Mr. Henry J. Waternoose is the CEO of Monsters inc.
-
Boo, the curious, friendly little girl who slips through her closet door to invade Monsters, inc.
This game is turning out to be the favorite of my eight year old sons Monsters, Inc. game collection. I would recommend it to Monster, Inc movie fans for hours of game play fun.
GAMEPLAY: 7
Controlling Sulley throughout Monstropolis is easy enough gameplay for young
players and challenging enough for most older kids.
GRAPHICS: 6.5
The graphics were somewhat disappointing for a PS2 game but the colorful
animation was still fun.
SOUND: 6.5
The sound effects and background music seemed appropriate for this game.
DIFFICULTY: 7
The controls of the game are easy with the help of the button prompts. Having a
good reader nearby would be helpful in reading the hints that appear under a
question mark throughout the game.
CONCEPT: 7
I think kids will enjoy controlling a character from a hit-movie in this game
which is rated E for everyone.
OVERALL: 7.5
Besides the graphics not being real impressive and the character voices not
being original this is one of our favorites of the Monsters, Inc. games.
