NFL Quarterback Club 2002 Review

NFL QB Club 2002 stands up as a solid football game.  It has all the basics; the teams, the plays, the players.  But it also has all the frills; the ability to create players, customizable teams, a beautiful instant replay system, and of course the Quarterback Challenge.  The Quarterback Challenge is where the game gets its name but NFL QB Club 2002 is not a one trick pony.  Taking your custom built team from the begging’s of the regular season all the way to the super bowl and beyond to the pro bowl is a ton of fun.  There’s nothing like seeing a player named after your self or a friend complete 600 passing yards in a game, or get 20 sacks, or dare I say it shut out the super bowl 51-0.  Yeah we're that good.

Well maybe we're not that good...the difficulty in the team play was not actually that high.  Sure their would be plenty of turnovers or failed plays or even sacks, but it really came down to simply throwing long and throwing often or on defense using the goal line formations almost constantly and running someone through the line for the sack.  Sure we could have gotten more fancy but we didn’t need to.  *cough*cough*undefeated season*cough**cough.  However the computer takes its revenge in the quarterback challenge.  The computer runs and passes like real quarterbacks.  Making it damn near impossible to beat...unless it screws up...even computers have bad days.

Graphically there are some errors.  Nothing makes you more pissed than watching your tackle arms go through the QB instead of making the sack.  But overall the graphics are very smooth and time was even taken to include details such as eye black and shoe tape.  You’ll have plenty of time to admire them in the instant replay screen.  Instant replay rocks.  Sound quality is also very good.  Real announcers sometimes get repetitive but they're bearable and the sound of hits is top notch.

Acclaim has done a very good job with this game.  In bringing their QB Club series to the PS2 they've made a huge leap in technology without losing the feel of a good series.  In the words of the announcers " that was a case of alligator arms right there..." Hey don't ask me to make the connection, just play the game.

Install: Easy

Gameplay: 9
Nice and smooth

Graphics: 8
Good all around.  But does Kerry Collins really look like a zombie?

Sound: 8
Repetitiveness is the only downfall.

Difficulty: 8
Hard enough for you to enjoy the season, and easy enough for you to have a chance at the QB challenge.

Concept: 5
Nothing too original really but its executed well.

Multiplayer: 9
Either cooperative/head to head season play, or competitive QB Challenge.  Lots of options + 4 player compatibility = fun

Overall: 9
Not exactly a brain buster, this game is good for hanging out with friends, eating, drinking, and yelling at the screen...just like a real game.
