Star Wars Starfighter Review
First I have to start out and say that I have been waiting to play this game for a long, long, (I am talking eons) time now. I am one of those Star Wars fans who have seen each one a combined total of in the 400 times range. But those of you who play this game will understand that a true Star Wars fan knows no limits which is what this game is all about..the sky is not the limit, only the starting point!
As the infamous first strains of the Star Wars theme song come on I can feel the rise of goosebumps on my playing arm. I know that I am in for the gameplay of my life! You are first treated to a film clip, which is done in first class style. The clip introduces you to the storyline of the game in full detail, explaining on what you must accomplish and how you will be accomplishing it. One thing I must point out here is just how well the introduction is done.
The game has 14 main missions in addition to bonus ones and each mission must be successfully completed before you can unlock the next mission.
You will be given 3 different starfighters to choose from to accomplish your missions and each starfighter has its own cockpit display as well as targeting mission. All have main Laser guns and secondary weapons. Which ones will depend on the ship you choose as well as where you are in the game. The diversity in starfighters in second to none and each one gives you a different play of the game. One thing I have to point out here is the two views you have to choose from. You can either choose the view of the pilot looking out of your fighter window or as the view of the starfighter flying in front of you. Make sure you try each one as each offers its own unique view of gameplay.
Your first mission is called the Proving Ground and believe me you will find yourself proving to yourself that you can fly this fighter! Even the most die-hard gamers will find that this phase is not quite as easy to conquer as it sounds. I thought hey, who needs a proving ground I could fly this baby with my eyes closed. Trust me, my eyes were opened quickly as I found myself bouncing of canyon wall to canyon wall. This phase will help you to gain good solid skills when it comes to complete control of your ship and good steady flying.
Other missions include escorting the Queen of Naboo safely to negotiations with the Trade Federation. Back up with your fighter crew will ensure safe delivery through hyperspace jump. Another will find Vana Sage taking a job testing a new Droid fighter, Scarab class. Vana gets the job done but lo and behold the Trade Federation decides not to pay him. Revenge time? Pay back time? You bet and it is done by...well, you have to play to find out but I promise you will not be disappointed!

Gameplay:
10.0
This
is some fast and furious gameplay. From the moment the game loads you know that
you can never let your guard down. Skill is needed and the game gives you every
opportunity imaginable to gain it. There is never a down time where the game
lags and only gets more intense mission to mission.
Graphics: 10.0
The graphics are breathtaking. After minutes of play the real world around you just seems to melt away. You feel as if you were to close your eyes and open them again you would find yourself amid the stars and planets of galaxies only dreamed of. From the minute detail of the pilots to the richness of the background no expense has been spared to bring you the highest quality of today’s technology.
Sound:
10.0
Sound
never well..sounded so good. Dolby quality all the way! The conversations are so
audible you swear they are sitting right next to you. From the guns exploding to
the whoosh of electronic doors opening each sound is given individual attention.
No blanket sounds here. The Star Wars theme so richly done will bring goosebumps
to the arms.
Difficulty:
10.0
This
is one of those games where gameplay could not be more consistent. Since each
mission must be completed to unlock the next, each one contains its own unique
challenge and the challenge never lags nor becomes just another way to win the
game.
Concept: 10.0
The concept of battles in space has been around for years now but never like this! While other games of the same genre rely on only missions to complete and then move on to others, this game has a continuing storyline. This enables the player to get a bigger picture of just what he or she is playing for and gives you a certain feeling of accomplishment after each mission is successfully completed.
Multiplayer: N/A
Overall: 10.0
I started this review by saying that all Star Wars fan would love this game but as I finish my review I realize that that statement was far too limiting. This game is for everyone who loves the challenge of gameplay where skill is what is needed and where you have plenty of chances to gain it. It is also for those who love to dream of future worlds and deep space unexplored. It is also for those who just love to play a game and enjoy the feeling of “yes, I did it!!”. In other words, this game is for everyone in our galaxy! May many, many hours of great gameplay be with you!
