Swing Away Golf Review
You don’t have to be an avid golf player or fan to have hours and hours of fun gameplay with this golfing game. It has to be the best golf game on the market today. In my opinion any game which is sports related and can make you a tried and true fan in minutes is already on its way to becoming a success. Trust me, this game won’t disappoint!
The first plus I saw right off the bat was that instead of giving you a choice of one or two players to choose from, you are given seven! Not only that, but you set the skill level not the game. This adds to the game tenfold as it gives you a chance to play the level you are comfortable with as well as set the pace in regards to distance, control and other factors. Another thing you will appreciate is that no matter which character you choose to represent you, he or she will have their own distinct personality, which is why I highly suggest switching your choices from game to game. Hint here: wait till you hear the grunts of one of the elderly male characters. You swear you can hear his @#$@# comments muttered under his breath!
Another feature, which lends to the game, is the way you can set the course, so to speak. If you feel that one is too easy for your skill how about putting a few self designed obstacles in the way to make the game more your speed. This is something I thoroughly enjoyed as if you are one of those “do it my way” kind of gamers, set traps can get monotonous and a little less challenging each time they come up. This game offers you the chance to do it "your way all the way” and is only limited to as far as your imagination will go!
As in most games of this genre, you are going to play three-click style. I have to admit that I have played games using this style and it can become monotonous at times and to me, make the game a little less enjoyable. Not so with this game! The ready, set, go of this style only enhances your play and gives you more control of your player. Make sure to use the angle shots to your advantage for the perfect set-up. It really does make a difference when you are closing in on the hole, especially if you are playing for the win. Another suggestion is that even though you have played other similar games start out in practice mode. Believe me, this golfing game really does differ from others which may have the same theme but not the same options. I guarantee you will be glad you gave it a shot!

Gameplay:
9.0
I was very impressed by the choices you have when it comes to the gameplay.
Instead of giving you the usual skill to expert choices, which seem to be found
in similar games, this one lets you do all the choosing from character to level.
This is the new generation of golfing games and affords everyone the
opportunity, from newbies to pros, the option of picking their own pace.
Graphics:
10.0
I
would need a book to applaud the creators of this section of the game. I have
never seen such graphics in a sports game, and this involves almost 30 that I am
an avid fan of. Playstation2 was created to not only bring faster gameplay but
also give us the most in graphics and effects. This game has taken full
advantage of that feature! From the birds’ twirping in the trees to the gentle
fall of water in a waterfall, this game has it all! I have never seen such lush
green of the course or the trees. Brilliant color all the way through. Another
graphic I just have to comment on is the weather. Check out those thunder
bumpers and watch for your spectators to pull out umbrellas when the rain comes.
I swear that the glare off the sun makes you want to shield your eyes behind the
console. Absolutely breathtaking!
Sound:
9.5
Although there is some music to choose from at appropriate moment of play, the
sound belongs to the effects made by the spectators as well as caddies and
players. Comments from disgruntled players to those sounds of victory are loud
and clear and perfectly in tune with the player and the shot.
Difficulty:
9.5
I like the fact that you are given the choice all the way of just how difficult
or easy you want to play. Practice mode really gives you a chance to hone up on
your skills or gain confidence in clicking up the level a notch. The game does
not simply set the skill levels like so many others, but instead trusts you the
player to set the level you are most comfortable with.
Concept:
9.5
This genre has
been done before but never at this level of graphics and choices.
Multiplayer:
9.5
This game can be played by up to four people. Now while I enjoyed playing one on
one, playing multi style opens up a whole new avenue for some really challenging
gameplay. When you are comfortable enough with the game, going multi really is
the way to go. A lot of sweat here involved but the winning is sweet!
Overall:
9.5
Not only is this game loaded with some of the best graphics you will find in a
game, characters with individual personality but also a sense of knowing that
the gamer is intelligent enough to set her or his limits.
