E3 2006 First Look Preview

KOEI has been known for its large scale battle titles and “me against umpteen bad guys” games, and one of the titles showcased at this year’s E3 proves no different. Samurai Warriors 2 will be making its way to the PS2, and will focus on fighting with a little character management tossed in.

Anyone who is not familiar with Samurai Warriors but is familiar with one of KOEI’s other titles … Dynasty Warriors … will probably feel right at home with this one. The demo showcased a lone warrior taking on a whole slew of bad guys, hacking and slashing his way through the fray to try and reach one General in particular, and there were special moves that could be performed once a special meter had filled up. It looked good, moved well, and it looks like it will continue the tradition of those kinds of KOEI games for you fans out there.

In addition, there was also some upgrading and allocation that could be done, like building up your attack power or buying more upgrades which could add a little more of a strategy element to the game overall. While it doesn’t look like it adds a whole lot of new elements to the series, fans of the Dynasty Warrior and Samurai Warrior series should get another solid title out of this one.
