VeggieTales: Larry Boy and the Bad Apple Preview
E3 2006 First Look Preview
LarryBoy and the Bad
Apple is the VeggieTales’ first venture onto console. The release of the
Bad Apple game will coincide with the release of the movie with the same title.
Join LarryBoy as he travels to lands of vices and helps his friends fight
temptation.
In the game you play as LarryBoy, a goofy super hero with different abilities to help you navigate each level. There will be five levels in all when the game comes out, and the first level will give you a tutorial to slowly show you how to play the game. Since it’s geared towards young children, LarryBoy and the Bad Apple is a slow-paced adventure game that’s easy to learn and not too difficult to play.
From what I saw, the
game has players follow a straight-forward path through each level, collecting
music notes and defending yourself from enemies. A few abilities at LarryBoy’s
disposal include a spin attack for knocking down nearby enemies or breaking
crates, a cape for gliding over pits, and a super soaker to water plants.
To make the game easier on small children, there is no life limit. Players get as many chances as they need to progress in the game. Invisible checkpoints are abundant as well, so players will never have to replay too much of the game over and over.
Since it is a children’s
game, there is also a timer built into the game so that parents can set how
long their child’s play session is. Fans of the movies will recognize
their favorite characters, since each one is modeled accurately and voiced by
the same voices as the movies. Fans will also enjoy the unlockable content,
which will include things like movie clips, pictures, songs, and mini games.
LarryBoy and the Bad Apple
is set to release for the Playstation 2 this summer in time for the movie’s
release.
