Dirge Of Cerberus - Final Fantasy VII Preview

Ah, Final Fantasy VII, quite possibly one of the most loved and cherished role-playing game ever to have graced the original PlayStation. It not only had a timeless epic story of betrayal, love and heroism, but it also had characters we actually came to really love and care about. One of the many characters just happens to be Vincent Valentine ... the mysterious figure Cloud and the others meet in a crypt. With the new collection of Final Fantasy VII games coming out, Vincent gets his own game with Dirge of Cerberus and it looks amazing.

Set three years after the climactic events at the end of Final Fantasy VII when the grand city of Midgar has been buried by the meteor, Dirge of Cerberus finds a mysterious group of survivors known as the DG Soldiers raiding what‘s left of the city. Somehow Vincent Valentine feels that he is somehow connected to these attacks and that he might just be the only one that can save the day. Armed with his trusty gun, our hero sets out to put an end to this new threat.

The demo I got to preview showed off plenty of cool gunplay moves Vincent is capable of performing (including some cool acrobatic shooting techniques). At one point he uses his gun as a sniper rifle, taking out enemies from afar. One thing is known for certain, action is definitely the game’s main theme and it certainly dishes it out plenty.

Aside from also looking pretty good in action and during cutscenes, we got to see familiar FFVII characters make an appearance (I won’t spoil the surprise) and we might finally get a peek at the mystery behind the man that kept us so intrigued for so long. How these events tie together with Before Crisis or the movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is yet to be known, though. If you love Final Fantasy VII as much as I do, this is one we should keep a close eye on.
