Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Preview
The
first Devil May Cry was a pleasant surprise for gamers when it was released.
It was an action game that packed a lot of style into blowing up creatures of
the dead. It seemed to be a perfect time piece since it included all sorts of
cool and unique moves and features we hadn’t seen before in an action game.
But then Devil May Cry 2 came out and gamers were disappointed. The game just
didn’t have the same style and pizzazz of the first game. But
now Capcom is determined to
correct this with Devil May Cry 3.
The demo on display showed off an opening cut scene that had Dante fighting monsters while eating pizza. There was even a scene where Dante cut a pool table in half and used part of it as a weapon and the other part as a shield. The gameplay during the normal stages was fast paced and had a ton of enemies for Dante to vanquish on the screen at one time. One area even had Dante fighting in a strip bar, which had a colorful dance floor. Now we didn’t get a chance to see Dante perform any moves off of the pole, but it was a very nice stage. At the end of the level, which was the end of the demo, you would fight a huge boss that looked like a huge dog skeleton.
The game boosts that you can use 4 different fighting styles. The first style is Sword Master, which allows you to use a sword and close combat. The Gunslinger style is designed for firearms such as the guns Dante is famous for. The Trickster style is design for evasion moves, where you don’t have to go head on in a battle. The final style, Royal Guard, is a defensive style where you focus on defense instead of the going straight into a battle. You can change fighting styles at a press of a button to change at anytime.
The graphics looked to have improved over Devil May Cry 1 or 2. The game is still set in a very dark setting but the game does have some color, especially the strip club area as mentioned earlier. The graphics for the stages are all very detailed and the character graphics & animations are well done. The demo at E3 was running at a constant frame rate and there wasn’t any noticeable stuttering.
So far Devil May Cry 3 is looking to be a great addition to the Devil May Cry franchise. From the looks of the game so far the developers took to heart comments made by gamers about Devil May Cry 2. The focus on young Dante, the ability to change fighting styles and the great graphics should make Devil May Cry 3 a great game. As of this time there is no expected release date.
