E3 2004 PreviewsNever underestimate your opponent, especially if that opponent happens to be a female in the male-dominated world of feudal Japan.

Red Ninja: End of Honor is a pending PlayStation 2 and Xbox release from developer Tranji and publisher Vivendi Universal. The game is slated for release in the fourth quarter of this year.

The game revolves around the story of a young girl who is seeking retribution for the death of her father. Kurenai is a young girl who has been attacked by the Black Lizard Clan. The clan hangs her by a wire and leaves her to die. But Kurenai does not die. Instead, she is rescued and adopted into another clan. There she learns to master the wire as a weapon and then embarks on the quest to kill those who brutally abused her and killed her father.

How she will accomplish the downfall of the Black Lizard Clan lays in the hands of the gamer. Kurenai can use stealth, her feminine wiles, or she can use the wire in a deadly manner. Whipping it about, she can decapitate her foes, or she can hang them.

The game uses puzzles, and there is a “ninja butterfly” that will give players hits through the game. Played out through the third-party perspective, the game also uses momentum-based movement to scale walls, and grapple from point-to-point.

This is a game that looks good with rich environments and terrific, through graphical, action. The physics of the wire, and the resulting devastation it creates is quite amazing. Through multiple opponents and an evolving story, Red Ninja will appeal to action gamers of all styles of gaming.
