E3 2003 - Hands On

Set aboard a cruise ship in the Atlantic, Umbrella’s creatures wreak havoc as usual and it’s your job to get to the bottom of the problem. In the battle against Umbrella, it seems everyone wants a piece of the action. This time it’s Bruce McGivern, an anti-Umbrella search and pursuit agent that’s out to take on the zombies.

Resident Evil Dead Aim is the newest light-gun game set in the Resident Evil universe. It will be on the Playstation 2 and support the Guncon 2 peripheral. If you remember Resident Evil Survivor, it was in first person like Time Crisis but still allowed exploration. Well, Survivor didn’t do too well with the public, so Capcom learned what they did wrong and have changed a few things. Now in Dead Aim, all exploration will be done in third person, but the action will be experienced in first person using the a light gun.

Dead Aim uses the typical pivot and go controls just like the rest of the Resident Evils, but also sports some great graphics. Certain areas of the ship are very dark, and you will have to use a pocket flashlight to find your way around. Once you spot a zombie and begin shooting, the camera automatically switches into first person making it easier to use the Guncon 2. New effects have been added, like zombies getting blown backward by explosive shotgun blasts, which compliment the look of realism in the game.

All of the gameplay you expect from a Resident Evil is there, including exploring and puzzle solving. You also won’t be bound to a single weapon; there will be plenty to find throughout the ship including an assault rifle, grenade launcher and particle rifle.

Resident Evil Dead Aim has been confirmed to release in June.
